ISTANBUL PICTURES

Istanbul is a divided city, split by the Bosporus, the narrow channel that separates
Europe from Asia. Ironically, the Asian side holds Western-style suburbs, while
the European side contains old Istanbul, a wonderland of mosques, opulent palaces,
and Byzantine ruins from the city's 16 centuries as a world power.
Ottoman & Byzantine monuments of Istanbul such as St. Sophia, Blue Mosque,
Topkapi Palace, Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern are in Sultanahmet square.

BODRUM PICTURES

Known as Halicarnassus in antiquity, Bodrum has a good claim to being Turkey's leading resort. Founded around 1000 BC, Halicarnassus was one of the first Greek colonies
in Asia, reaching its height under Mausolus, who ruled from 377 BC to 353 BC.
The modern town stretches along the shore of two crescent-shape bays.
Bodrum is still beautiful, with its gleaming whitewashed buildings covered with bougainvillea and its unfettered vistas of the sparkling bays.
